Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems are necessary to keep your equipment going in the event of a power outage, and EXIDE batteries are vital to providing backup power reliability. Yet, as with all batteries, they won’t last forever. Here’s how you can maximize the life of your EXIDE batteries in a UPS system.
- Store batteries in dry, cool condition
In an ideal condition, Sprinter EXIDE Batteries are supposed to be stored in well-ventilated places where temperature levels remain 20-25°C (68-77°F). Do not install your UPS near heat generators such as radiators, the sun, or enclosed cabinets that do not offer much air supply.
- Refrain from deep discharge
EXIDE batteries in an AES Technologies UPS setup are meant to supply short spikes of backup power. If drained to very low levels regularly, their life span is reduced. To avoid deep discharges employ a UPS with automatic shutdown before complete discharge of the battery.
- Charge the battery regularly
Even when the APC SRV3KI Easy UPS is not in use, EXIDE batteries must be maintained in a fully charged state. If they are left discharged for an extended period, sulfation will result, as lead sulfate crystals accumulate and decrease battery efficiency. Ensure that the UPS is plugged in and charging as often as possible.
- Don’t overload the UPS
Your UPS has a power capacity, and pushing it beyond this capacity causes the battery to do more work, reducing its lifespan. Ensure the devices plugged in do not draw more power than the UPS is capable of. If required, switch to a higher-capacity UPS.
